Senior Engineer (Helsinki)

Our large client in retail is looking for an experienced engineer to strengthen the team responsible for developing and maintaining parts of their B2C e-commerce backend systems. The services within this scope support consumer-facing interfaces, specifically a particular web service and mobile application.

Start: February-March
Duration: No fixed end date / ongoing
Location: Hybrid. At least 2 days/week at client’s office in Helsinki
Language: Primary working language is English. Finnish is considered an advantage
Allocation: 100%

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with extensive experience in complex large-scale systems at various stages of their lifecycle, preferably from different industries, environments and setups. - The consultant needs to be open minded, analytical and strategic. Challenges are not limited to be only technical in this position, but also include challenges regarding roles and responsibilites, simplifying unnecessary logic in systems and getting the team and the platform to a better place than they are now. Especially important is to find an expert who can lead by example and who can make an impact on the technical environment and the team, without being in a Lead role or overriding other senior experts. The client is looking for an increase in broad expertise in team, and for the consultant to make a positive impact on both the platform, service and the team.

Specifically, we are looking for a person who is:

• Hands-on Engineer as part of an agile team
• Support the team in simplifying existing services to make them easier to understand and operate
• Balance the creation of new features and capabilities with the continuous improvement of existing ones
• Bring a versatile background and strong collaborative skills to help the entire team succeed
• The client places high value on the consultant’s experience in clarifying software architecture and driving long-term operational improvements
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills - a person who enjoys working with others and improving together
• A calm problem solver who isn't afraid of challenges but motivated to one day leave things better than before
• Understanding of change implementation and what change looks like and what the value can be

Technical Environment:

• The services are implemented in AWS as TypeScript Lambda microservices
• The front-end interfaces interact with these services through a GraphQL layer
• Communication between services is primarily message-based via EventBridge or SNS+SQS
• The current architecture contains instances where established "service boundaries" are crossed. Data is primarily stored and managed using DynamoDB, RDS (PostgreSQL), and S3
• AI tools: Copilot and Kiro
